Zoé Hammer Unveils New Single, “Dreams”, a Shimmering Ode to Self-Reckoning

“Dreams I never truly wanted and battles that weren’t mine”: these are the feelings swirling around Zoé Hammer’s latest single, “Dreams”. The track is the first single on Zoé’s new album Birdlike.

Blurring the realms of dream pop and fantasy, Zoé Hammer crafts songs that feel like stepping into a vivid fairytale. Where her debut album Liquid Dream unfolds as a colourful visual world to get lost in – a place to wander, wonder, and lose yourself – “Dreams” the first single of her new album “Birdlike” symbolises a new chapter to come for the singer-songwriter. Rich with shimmering textures, arresting lyricism, and mythical imagery, this is one of discovery and reflection.

Five years in the making, “Dreams” is a coming-of-age story. This timeline reflects the self-realisation Zoé had to have in order for the song to evolve to what it is today. The track begins on a theme of sadness, backed by a grand orchestra. As the protagonist begins to question the root of their melancholy, the orchestra begins to change – charting the journey of self-discovery.

“‘Dreams’ was written during a time when I was mourning the rejection of someone that had become the embodiment of everything I had ever wanted in life,” Zoé shares. “At the time any dream was good enough because dreams were a way out or a ticket to the next chapter. In the song an older me reflects on ancient dreams I craved but never truly wanted and the battles I fought and lost which weren’t even mine.”

“Dreams” closes on a lyrical conclusion, but also a compositional one. With new chords every four bars, the change represents joy and acceptance in the knowledge that change is the only constant. Zoé wrote the song in Zurich, and produced & recorded the song in London.

Alongside the release of “Dreams”, Zoé will be releasing a music video to accompany the single, and shares that her upcoming album is in the works. The music video invites viewers into the imaginative world of Zoé, where we dive into a vibrant art scene of friendship and community. Filmed in an abandoned building, the project brought together about thirty collaborators, all united by Zoé to realise a collective creative vision.
