London post-punk trio Dead Horse reveal a strikingly vulnerable side with their latest single, ‘I Would Die’, the newest preview of their forthcoming debut album Caught The Nonsense, due for release on 11 September 2026 via Sister 9 Records. Trading some of their trademark absurdism for emotional intensity, the track delivers a visceral exploration of love, obsession, and total devotion, while remaining firmly rooted in the band’s signature blend of jagged garage rock, noise, and post-punk urgency.
Since forming in 2019, Dead Horse, comprising Kevin Lennon, Josh Kemp, and Duncan Clark, have built a reputation as one of London’s most unpredictable live acts. Combining serrated guitar work, sardonic wit, surreal lyricism, and explosive performances, the trio occupy a thrilling space somewhere between OSEES, The Cramps, Warmduscher, and Viagra Boys. Across releases including Dead Horse I, Hot Martyr, and Ménagerie Trois, they’ve evolved from feral punk minimalism into a darker, sharper, and more cinematic force.
Now, ‘I Would Die’ offers one of the band’s most emotionally exposed moments to date.
Built around a simple but devastating central refrain, the song embraces repetition as power. Rather than masking emotion behind irony or absurdity, Dead Horse allow the track’s unwavering sincerity to take centre stage, transforming a straightforward declaration of love into something increasingly obsessive, unsettling, and all-consuming.
“I Would Die is a love song, but pushed to an extreme,” the band explain. “It’s about that overwhelming feeling of finding someone and wanting to give yourself to them completely, the kind of devotion that feels romantic, dramatic and slightly dangerous all at once. The lyrics are deliberately simple and direct, almost like a mantra, with the repeated line ‘I would die for you’ turning from a declaration of love into something more intense and consuming.”
“In the studio, we wanted to keep the intensity at the centre: the feeling of a band driving one idea forward until it becomes almost devotional. Compared with some of the more absurd or chaotic moments on the album, this one feels more exposed, still rough-edged and noisy, but emotionally very straight-faced.”
That tension between tenderness and abrasion gives ‘I Would Die’ its unique power. Distorted guitars grind relentlessly beneath urgent rhythms, while the band’s raw, unfiltered performance captures the emotional weight of unwavering commitment without ever slipping into sentimentality.
