Singer-songwriter Steve Stinson continues the journey towards his forthcoming debut album Cocoon (October 2026), with his latest single, ‘Evergreen’, a warm and reflective exploration of the passions that remain with us no matter how much life changes.
Blending blues, folk and Americana with Stinson’s understated storytelling, ‘Evergreen’ looks back on his lifelong relationship with music and the realisation that, despite careers, countries and changing priorities, songwriting has been one constant he has never been able to leave behind. More than simply reflecting on that connection, the track captures the moment Stinson decided it was finally time to give that part of himself the attention it deserved.
“Evergreen is about taking a part of me that’s never really fallen off my radar my entire life,” Stinson explains. “It’s always been something I’ve been passionate about and now is the moment where it not only gets put in front of other people, but also to really understand how others resonate with it.”
Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma and raised between the United States and Australia, Stinson’s own story has been defined by movement and reinvention. Although his life eventually took him into a career outside music, songwriting quietly remained in the background throughout.
Now based in Papua New Guinea, Stinson has reached a point where that lifelong creative impulse can no longer remain a side pursuit. ‘Evergreen’ emerged from recognising that music had survived every change in his life and that waiting for the perfect moment to pursue it more seriously was no longer enough.
The song therefore carries both reflection and possibility. There is the fulfilment that comes with finally committing to something that has remained important for decades, but also the vulnerability of sharing that work with others and discovering whether the stories behind it will resonate beyond the person who wrote them.
That tension places ‘Evergreen’ naturally within the wider narrative of Stinson’s forthcoming debut album, Cocoon, due for release in October 2026. Centred around transformation, the record examines the ways people grow, adapt and reshape themselves through the experiences that define them. Across the album, Stinson explores identity, change, purpose and the passage of time, drawing heavily upon a life lived across different countries and cultures.
If Cocoon is ultimately a record about becoming, ‘Evergreen’ represents the things that survive that process. It acknowledges that growth does not always mean leaving the past behind; sometimes it means recognising which parts of ourselves have quietly endured and finally choosing to follow them.
Musically, Stinson draws from the storytelling tradition of Bob Dylan, alongside the expansive melodic sensibilities associated with Coldplay and The Fray. Blues, folk and Americana provide the foundations for a sound rooted in warmth and emotional honesty, allowing his lyrics and lived experiences to remain firmly at the centre.
‘Evergreen’ also continues a run of singles introducing listeners to the different chapters of Cocoon. Together, the releases reveal an artist increasingly willing to turn years of private songwriting into something public, finding connections between the places he has lived, the choices he has made and the ambitions that never entirely disappeared.
