Emily Anderson announces new single “In The Garden”, A Warm Reflection on Friendship, Memory and The Passage of Time

LA indie-folk songwriter Emily Anderson returns with “In The Garden”, a warm, nostalgic and hazy new single rich with memory.

Produced by Grammy-winning producer Sarah Tudzin (boygenius, Eliza McLamb), the song finds Emily reflecting on one of life’s overlooked treasures: knowing someone through multiple stages of their lives, and what a gift it is to be able to look back on growth, expansion and change.

“In The Garden” began with an intimate moment between Emily and her friend. As she held her friend’s baby in her arms, the storyline for “In The Garden” began to unfold. She shares, “I wrote this song about catching up with a friend with her baby on my knee and what a gift it is to know someone through multiple stages of life. So often I feel like I’m “behind” or playing catch up in my own life, but the moments I am happiest are when I’m in the present moment with the ones I love. Time is moving whether I fight it or not, so what if I choose to enjoy what I have?”

Sonically, “In The Garden” captures the intimate storytelling and emotional warmth that have become a hallmark to Emily’s work. It was this essence that got her song “The Light” featured on Netflix’s Virgin River. Pairing lush indie-folk arrangements with incisive yet open-hearted songwriting, Emily’s gift for finding humour and tenderness in the details of everyday life always rings true.

“In The Garden” marks the first glimpse into Emily’s forthcoming third full-length album, Be Everything, due in Spring 2027. The single will also have a music video to follow in the coming weeks.

Artist Bio: Emily Anderson is an indie folk artist crafting uplifting, intimate, and wryly warmhearted songs. Sonically akin to Kacey Musgraves and Phoebe Bridgers, Emily’s songwriting has been praised for its authenticity and emotional depth, “a totally authentic songwriter” whose stories “shine with a smile and a smirk” (Loren Dixon, KNBA). Her sophomore record Salt & Water earned widespread attention, with the single “Gold” landing a national placement in a Miller Lite ad campaign. Her newest single “The Light” is featured in Netflix’s Virgin River, adding to a growing list of sync placements that includes Netflix’s Love is Blind (Season 8) and video games Calico and The Stars Between Us.

Emily has toured extensively across the US and Canada, sharing stages with Alex Lahey, Sarah Tudzin, Danielle Ate the Sandwich, and Peter Mulvey. Originally from Fairbanks, Alaska before moving to Los Angeles, she maintains a large following from the northern music community.
