Lahde Returns with ‘Sunshine’, Embracing Transition, Culture, and Womanhood

Rising artist Lahde steps fully into her sound and identity with the release of Sunshine, alongside striking lead single, “All Night”

Sunshine is all about transition, self-discovery, and stepping unapologetically into womanhood. The album blends R&B, Afrobeat, Hip-Hop, and Alternative sounds, a radiant testament to Lahde’s boldness and softness that exist simultaneously. The new album arrives in two parts, with the second to drop in November. The two parts of Sunshine, suitably so, drop at the start and end of the autumn season, mirroring the transitional themes of the record.

On Sunshine, Lahde shares, “Sunshine is about embracing all the sides of myself — the bold, the soft, the strong, the sensual. It’s a celebration of being multidimensional and unapologetic, and it represents the light I want to share with the world.”

“All Night” – the album’s standout single – is a late-night confessional disguised as a party anthem. On the surface, it pulses with club energy—thumping beats, movement on the dancefloor, flashing lights. But beneath the rhythm, there’s tension: a search for release from heartbreak, numbness, and the weight of unmet desire.

Duality is the theme that marks Lahde’s latest offering. The track’s narrative depicts its main character being swept up in the music, dancing and indulgence, before the self-aware lyricism takes over – acknowledging the loneliness and singularity lingering after the music stops. Beyond the story, the conception of “All Night” was truly a reckoning.

For Lahde, the conception of “All Night” symbolised patience and trust of the creative process. More than that, it represented a time of reconnection to her heritage. It was clear at this point that the next project had to be rooted in her Nigerian culture: “It made me realize that going back to my heritage wasn’t just an option—it was the next step of my artistry.Oluwafunmilade Ayomide Oyapero, known as Lahde, is a Nigerian-born, Canadian-raised artist shaping a bold new wave of R&B and Afrobeats. Born in Abeokuta, Nigeria, before moving to Canada at the age of three, Lahde embodies a dual heritage that breathes through her music—rooted in Afro rhythms and sharpened by global influences. She began singing at just four years old, finding joy in melody long before the stage lights found her. By twelve, she was receiving formal vocal training at the Ontario Conservatory of Music, where she refined the control, range, and technique that would become her trademark. By her teens, she was winning vocal competitions provincially through the Ontario Conservatory of Music. Lahde’s professional journey unfolded in 2024 with her debut EP RedEye, and she has since released her sophomore EP Auburn. Now, Lahde enters a defining new chapter with her upcoming project Sunshine, set for October 2025. Sunshine is a homecoming to her Nigerian roots and a celebration of her womanhood, identity, and growth as an artist. The project reflects Lahde’s multidimensional artistry and her vision of music as both cultural bridge and personal truth. Lahde’s journey is proof that her voice has always been her calling.
