Julia Kate Battles Her Relationship with Her Body On New Single “truce”

Sherman Oaks-born singer-songwriter Julia Katereleases new single, “truce”, out now.

The 21-year old artist is currently a double major in songwriting and music business at Berklee College of Music, and her latest single is a tender turn inward – unflinching, soft, and brave, “truce” traces the internal war between self-perception and self-acceptance. Julia chooses a truce in her relationship between herself and her body.

Raised on the diaristic clarity of Taylor Swift, the introspective collectedness of Lorde, the hushed intensity of Billie Eilish, and the cinematic melancholy of Lana Del Rey, Julia has already built a catalogue fronting emotional specificity and unguarded lyricism.

On “truce”, she shares, “Since I was young, I was always a tall girl. I’ve always been self-conscious about body image. Even when I started eating better and working out, I still remember looking in the mirror and not feeling comfortable with my reflection.”

Written alongside longtime collaborator Nick Rosen, the lyrics for “truce” flowed out of Julia quickly. Together, they shaped the melody before Rosen built out the full arrangement, allowing the track’s emotional core to sit front and centre.

Julia continues, ‘“truce” came from realizing how often I was at war with my own body. It’s not a song about loving yourself overnight, but it’s about deciding to stop being cruel to yourself when you look in the mirror. I think a lot of body shaming doesn’t come from other people anymore, but it comes from inside your own head. This song is me recognizing that voice and asking it to quiet down, even just a little. Calling a truce doesn’t mean everything’s healed. It just means you’re choosing to stop fighting. That felt honest to me.”

Artist bio: Julia Kate is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Sherman Oaks, CA., and yes, she’s a valley girl, so please don’t judge. Growing up, she was inspired by artists like Taylor Swift, Lorde, Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey, but she loves all sorts of music and is happiest at places like Coachella.

Julia began writing her own original songs in high school when she was introduced by a family friend to producer Johnny What (JuiceWRLD, Pentatonix). Johnny took Julia under his wing, and along with musical director Nick Rosen and Jacob Wick, with the band Dreamers, the threesome crafted Julia’s first EP, “just a kid” (released in 2022). Before heading to Berklee in the fall of 2023, Julia went back into the studio with Nick Rosen and recorded her second EP, “yearbook,” released in September 2023.

When home from school, Julia Kate often gigs around Los Angeles at venues like The Whisky a-Go-Go, The Troubadour, The Hotel Café and The Mint. Julia Kate has been releasing singles consistently since the fall of 2024. With every release, her followers and streams have grown. Her single, “i wish I knew (one more kiss),” released in March of 2025, has become the biggest streamed song in her catalog of original releases.
