British electronic producer Ch!mes returns with his latest single, “Wouldn’t That Be Smooth,” a cool, sophisticated track that blends electronic production with nu-jazz textures and Brazilian baile funk rhythms. Light, stylish, and effortlessly laid-back, the single captures the feeling of stepping away from the daily grind and allowing yourself a moment of calm.
Ch!mes has steadily grown his reputation in the independent electronic scene, earning support from influential music blogs and radio stations including Acid Stag, Stereofox, The Word Is Bond, SwanoDown, Kane FM, Amazing Radio, and Night Swim Radio. His music has also caught the attention of Kitsuné Musique, the respected label known for releasing early work by artists such as Two Door Cinema Club, Olly Alexander (Years & Years), and Mark Ronson.
With “Wouldn’t That Be Smooth,” Ch!mes leans further into experimentation. The track merges breezy electronic grooves with the rhythmic bounce of Brazilian baile funk, creating a sonic atmosphere that feels equally suited to late-night drives, summer evenings, and relaxed dancefloors.
Rhythmically, the track draws inspiration from Stromae’s “Fils de joie,” particularly its Brazilian baile funk drum style. After shaping the beat, Ch!mes brought in a vocalist collaborator, who prefers to remain anonymous, to write and perform a story-driven vocal centred around summer and relaxation.
“‘Wouldn’t That Be Smooth’ is about relaxation; taking a break from the daily grind we all tend to go through in order to make a living,” Ch!mes explains.
The result is a track that balances groove with elegance, an effortlessly smooth blend of electronic production, rhythmic experimentation, and laid-back storytelling.
As Ch!mes continues to push beyond conventional genre boundaries, “Wouldn’t That Be Smooth” highlights his ability to transform technical production skills into immersive musical worlds. It’s another confident step forward for a producer determined to craft something truly his own.
