Southampton’s Shadow Flowers turn grief into atmosphere on ‘Paraselene’

Shadow Flowers have shared ‘Paraselene’, a new single built around the uneasy relationship between memory, loss and perception.

The song takes its title from a phenomenon in which moonlight refracts through frozen particles in the atmosphere, creating what appears to be a second moon. For songwriter Aaron Mills, that visual illusion became a fitting image for the way grief can make familiar things feel altered.

The track pairs thick guitar layers with quieter moments of suspension, balancing influences from grunge and shoegaze with a more expansive alternative-rock approach.

“Paraselene” forms part of the group’s forthcoming debut album Blood Book, which was recorded with Ian Davenport and completed by mixer and mastering engineer Peter Fletcher.

With early BBC Introducing airplay already secured, Shadow Flowers are now preparing to take the material into a live setting.
