Underground artist Draymond is back with “iceberb”, a hazy, stripped-back rap record built for late nights, packed rooms and the blurred space between internet culture and club music.
Moving between Los Angeles and Tokyo, Draymond has been developing a raw, internet-age sound that pulls from Southern melodic rap and the emotional intensity of the SoundCloud era. On “iceberb”, that approach becomes especially immediate: layered vocals, an unmistakably Atlanta-influenced atmosphere, and a loose, instinctive performance give the track the feeling of something discovered rather than manufactured.
The track emerged from an intense month-long creative run with collaborator Scarsbleedpurple, who lived on Draymond’s couch while the pair made music around the clock. More than 100 songs came out of that period, but “iceberb” quickly stood apart. Scarsbleedpurple freestyled his verse, capturing the spontaneous energy that ultimately defined the record.
Produced from YouTube beats and vocals, “iceberb” embraces minimalism while leaving room for the vocals and dynamics of the performance to carry the record. The result is an underground club record that feels deliberately unpolished, intimate and immediate; an example of the high-quality club hits Draymond and his collaborators can create, while introducing a new set of dynamics within this genre context.
Draymond’s sound sits comfortably alongside artists such as Tezzus, Don Toliver, Thouxanbanfauni, Yung Fazo, midwxst, and SoFaygo, while maintaining its own anonymous, fragmented character.
