Swiss Pleasure Return With Their cover of ‘It’s My Party’

Picture the song as it has always sounded: bright, glossy, cheerful on the surface.

Now pull the curtain back on what is happening underneath. That is the idea behind the new cover of ‘It’s My Party’ from Berlin trio Swiss Pleasure, out now.

The band began working on it in 2024, keen to reveal the bittersweet emotions beneath the original’s pop sheen. Their arrangement is more melancholic and raw, and it lets some of the song’s underlying rage come through.

In Lesley Gore’s era that kind of expression was probably not considered acceptable for women. Gore was also a queer icon whose openness and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights still inspire the band.
