Manchester-based trio GoGo Penguin have announced their highly anticipated new album ‘Necessary Fictions’, set for release on June 20th via XXIM/Sony. Known for their genre-defying blend of jazz, classical, and electronic influences, the group take a bold leap forward with their seventh studio album, pushing further into sonic experimentation and synth-laden textures.
Alongside the album announcement, GoGo Penguin are also unveiling their latest single, ‘Fallowfield Loops’. It’s a high-energy track that showcases the trio’s tight interplay and renewed sense of urgency. With pulsing modular synthesisers weaving into their signature piano-driven sound, ‘Fallowfield Loops’ is a vibrant introduction to the group’s evolving musical vision.
The shift in direction comes in part from the band’s lockdown-era immersion into new instruments and production methods. Pianist Chris Illingworth dove deep into the world of modular synthesis during the pandemic, reigniting an interest first sparked as a child tinkering with MIDI keyboards and Cubase software on an Atari.
