Rising blues-rock artist Alex Kilroy unveils his powerful new single “Break My Chains,” marking a defining moment in a journey that stretches from Transylvania to the heart of the American blues tradition. The track also serves as the title cut from his debut album, out May 15th, introducing a guitarist and songwriter whose story is as compelling as his sound.
Blending smoky blues, psychedelic textures, and desert-rock undertones, “Break My Chains” channels a timeless spirit rooted in the lineage of Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Doors, while carving out a voice entirely his own. Kilroy’s expressive guitar work and raw, soulful delivery create a track that feels both nostalgic and strikingly immediate, an anthem of self-liberation wrapped in swirling riffs and hypnotic groove.
Born in Bistrița, Romania, Kilroy’s connection to American blues began long before he ever set foot in the United States. As a child, he hung an American flag above his bed, convinced he was only “visiting” Romania. That sense of destiny sharpened the moment he first heard Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Live at Montreux, igniting a lifelong pursuit of the sound and spirit he describes simply as “freedom.”
After years of classical training, European festival stages, and even opening for blues legend Lucky Peterson, Kilroy’s path took him through relentless challenges, self-funded travel, visa hurdles, and a bold move to Nashville, where he rebuilt his life from the ground up. Now based in Orlando, where he connected with industry veterans Clyde Harris and his business partner Pat Armstrong (Lynyrd Skynyrd). His debut album, Break My Chains, represents the culmination of that journey, recorded in Florida with producer Tres Sasser and a handpicked band.
At its core, “Break My Chains” captures the philosophy behind both the single and the album. It’s a track about shedding expectations, confronting internal limitations, and embracing authenticity in a world that often demands conformity.
“It’s about breaking the routine, pushing the boundaries of life, breaking the chains of society, and being true to oneself,” Kilroy explains.
The song’s bluesy intensity and cinematic atmosphere mirror the artist’s own evolution, moving from imitation to identity, from admiration to authorship. It also carries a deeper emotional weight, shaped by the recent loss of his father, whose early guidance and belief laid the foundation for Kilroy’s unwavering pursuit of music.
With “Break My Chains,” Alex Kilroy announces himself as a formidable new voice in modern blues-rock. Rooted in tradition but driven by personal truth, his music stands as both a tribute to the past and a bold step into the future.
