Three-time Grammy-nominated artist and founding member of The Pharcyde, Bootie Brown, returns with his latest solo single, ‘2 Get 2 U’, a smooth, character-driven hip-hop cut exploring the lengths men will go to capture someone’s attention.
Born Romye Robinson, Bootie Brown has spent decades pushing at the boundaries of alternative hip-hop. As a founding member of The Pharcyde, he helped shape a distinctly playful, left-field approach to the genre through seminal tracks including ‘Passin’ Me By’ and ‘Drop’. His career has continued to evolve through collaborations with artists across the musical spectrum, most notably Gorillaz, appearing on acclaimed tracks including ‘Dirty Harry’ and ‘New Gold’.
With ‘2 Get 2 U’, Brown brings that unmistakable personality into a new chapter. Relaxed and playful, the track revolves around attraction, pursuit and the different tactics people employ when trying to win someone over.
“What ‘2 Get 2 U’ means to me is the various ways men will try to seduce a woman,” Brown explains.
The track also emerged directly from Brown’s commitment to discovering and platforming new creative talent. Through his OrganicBeat Session show on PharcydeTV, Brown regularly showcases beatmakers and producers, providing a space for fresh sounds to reach new audiences. It was there that he first encountered the production of Les Lockheart.
“I host a show called OrganicBeat Session on PharcydeTV, and Les Lockheart is one of many talented beatmakers who are showcased on the stream,” Brown shares. “I heard this track and knew I could create something special with it. I have been working on it for some time now, and it’s ready for me to share with the people.”
That instinctive connection forms the foundation of ‘2 Get 2 U’, bringing Lockheart’s production together with Brown’s seasoned delivery and natural storytelling.
