Emerging singer-songwriter Clarity Liao continues to unveil the emotional world of her forthcoming EP Dear… with the release of her latest single, ‘Have You’. Blending intimate bedroom pop with indie-pop warmth and heartfelt lyricism, the track captures the quiet ache of unspoken love, transforming an unsent confession into one of her most personal songs to date.
Having written songs since the age of seven, Clarity has already established herself as an exciting young songwriter. As the principal songwriter for the band Navillera, she helped shape the group’s award-winning debut single ‘Too Young’, recipient of the 2024 Yamaha National Best Popular Music Award, while her composition ‘I Need You’ earned first place at the YMS 2025 National Composers competition. Now stepping confidently into her solo career, Clarity continues to broaden her sound, embracing indie pop, bedroom pop, R&B, and modern doo-wop while remaining rooted in deeply personal storytelling.
‘Have You’ finds Clarity at her most vulnerable, exploring the bittersweet experience of loving someone from afar without ever finding the courage to tell them how she felt.
“Have You is a love letter to a boy I was friends with, but never had the courage to tell I liked him,” Clarity explains. “It came from the feeling of caring deeply for someone while keeping it hidden, and trying to become someone they would notice. I changed my style, put more thought into how I looked, and gave so much of myself, but still couldn’t have him. The song captures that heartbreak of wanting someone who never fully sees the effort behind it.”
Rather than simply recounting those emotions, Clarity wrote the song as though it were the letter she never had the chance to send.
“I wanted the lyrics to feel honest, vulnerable, and a little obsessive in the way real feelings can be when you like someone deeply,” she says. “I also tried to capture his music taste so it would feel personal, like something he might finally understand if he ever hears it.”
That emotional honesty extends into every aspect of the production. Built around understated instrumentation and spacious arrangements, ‘Have You’ allows Clarity’s expressive vocal performance to take centre stage, creating the feeling of an intimate conversation rather than a polished pop record.
“I wanted it to sound like a quiet confession, with enough space for the feelings to come through clearly. The overall sound was shaped to support the emotional tension of waiting, hoping, and not being able to let go.”
The single forms part of Clarity’s forthcoming seven-track EP, Dear…, a collection of musical love letters exploring love, jealousy, rejection, and loss. Each song represents conversations left unfinished and emotions left unsaid, capturing the delicate balance between hope and heartbreak. Across the project, love becomes both comforting and confining, a bittersweet space where vulnerability and longing coexist.
With ‘Have You’, Clarity Liao offers perhaps her most intimate release yet, a beautifully understated confession that reminds listeners that some of life’s biggest emotions are often the ones left unsaid. As anticipation builds for Dear…, the single further establishes her as one of indie pop’s most promising new storytellers, crafting songs that feel less like performances and more like pages torn from a diary.
