Dutch-born, London-based pop artist Elfi returns with “be careful what you wish for”, a soaring heartbreak anthem that turns self-realisation into celebration. Taken from her forthcoming EP 11.11, the track blends dreamy harmonies, bold choruses, and disarming honesty, solidifying Elfi’s reputation for transforming personal stories into glittering pop confessionals.
“Ever dodged a bullet, you once begged to be with? I wrote the song after I went back to the restaurant I used to frequent with my ex-boyfriend, and he (and all the drama) came racing back into my mind. And I realised that I had dodged a bullet. Sometimes you think you know what you want, but you’re very grateful to have never gotten it. Oh, and it’s my favourite song to dance to.”
Elfi wrote the song in London after what she calls a moment of clarity, seeing through the “rose-coloured glass” of a one-sided love.
“I was hopelessly in love with a guy for months, but one day my rose-coloured glass came off and I saw the whole thing clearly — how he always managed to blame his circumstances for being mean. I wished so many times that I would be with him and now I know — you need to be careful what you’re wishing for. Happy that I wasn’t the one for him.”
She later finished the track in Los Angeles with her “favourite producer in the world”, John McLucas, shaping it into a euphoric pop moment that captures the relief of moving on and the thrill of finally dancing again.
“be careful what you wish for” arrives ahead of Elfi’s new EP 11.11, recorded between Los Angeles, London, and Amsterdam and brought to life at the legendary Metropolis Studios in London. The EP marks a new chapter for Elfi: confident, magnetic, and unafraid to dive headfirst into love and its illusions.
Her live shows have become an extension of that honesty and connection. From sold-out performances at London’s Spice of Life and Amsterdam’s Cinetol, to her latest release show at Notting Hill Arts Club on November 11, Elfi continues to transform every room into a shared, glittering experience.Warm, cinematic, and deeply human, “be careful what you wish for” is the kind of heartbreak song that lets you dance your way out of the past.
