Junior Wright turns an early vocal idea Into new single ‘Away’

A vocal melody provided the starting point for Junior Wright’s latest single “Away”.

The LA singer-songwriter developed the initial idea into lyrics about loss before bringing the material to a pianist, who created much of the instrumental framework in response to Wright’s performance.

Cello was later introduced to the recording, resulting in a sparse arrangement that places considerable emphasis on the voice.

The finished track considers grief as a gradual process, moving from moments of relative warmth into a darker emotional space as the reality of absence becomes clearer.

Wright’s relationship with singing stretches back to early childhood, when he performed in church and school choirs. That foundation continues to inform a musical approach focused on emotional communication even as he explores different styles.

“Away” represents one of his more restrained releases, prioritising vocal detail and songwriting over elaborate production while continuing his wider aim of creating music that can connect personal experiences with a broader audience.
