Picture a home studio, late at night, a demo taking shape from nothing more than an idea of what a good relationship might feel like. That’s where ‘Your Girl’ started for MADISON, years before it became the confident, cinematic-pop anthem of August.
The London-based, Australian-born artist has never been short on ambition. Her sound has always leaned towards the theatrical, drawing on film scoring as much as pop songwriting, and past releases have mined darker emotional territory. ‘Your Girl’ shifts that balance. It keeps the scale, the layered vocals, the orchestral strings, but wraps them around something far more playful: the specific high of meeting someone who makes you want to be bolder.
“Your Girl is about the rush of meeting someone who makes you feel empowered to become the best version of yourself, and realising all you want is to be theirs. For me, it was almost like writing about the kind of love I hoped to attract into my life. I wanted to bottle that feeling in a way that felt playful, uplifting and unapologetically pop.”

Madison eventually brought the demo to Swedish producer Oliver Lundström, known for his work with James Arthur, Carly Rae Jepsen and TWICE, and the pair experimented with several different directions before settling on a version that splits the difference between commercial pop and widescreen drama. Vocals were tracked at Lundström’s Stockholm studio, with the rest built remotely between two countries.
It’s a track that rewards patience. The hooks land fast, but the detail in the production, the ensemble backing vocals, the sound design tucked into the edges, keeps revealing itself on repeat listens. For an artist already carrying Spotify Editorial support and a Top 20 US radio chart placement with ‘Nightshade’, ‘Your Girl’ feels like the moment the pieces click into a clearer artistic identity.
