British singer-songwriter and guitarist Tom Moriarty, hailed as “a performer of rare talent” by the Press Association and praised by the renowned Q Magazine for his “thoughtful roots rock,” is set to release his highly anticipated fifth studio album, ‘Chapters’, on 5th June 2026. Known for his soulful vocals, described as “somewhere between the rage of Eddie Vedder and the soul of Ray Lamontagne”, Moriarty has earned a reputation as one of the finest songwriters of his generation.
Following his critically acclaimed debut ‘Fire In The Doll’s House’ and the equally praised follow up ‘The Road’, which drew admiration from legends including David Crosby, Moriarty continues to evolve his sound with ‘Chapters’, blending his signature acoustic folk-rock with a newfound electric edge. Drawing on skills honed at the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles, the album explores elements of US southern rock while retaining the introspective storytelling that has defined his career.
Opening track ‘Enemy Inside’ exemplifies this evolution. A driving rock anthem, it channels years of experience, hardship, and emotion through soaring guitar lines and Moriarty’s whisky-like vocals, creating a track that feels both timeless and urgent. Meanwhile, the autobiographical ‘On The Road Again’ captures the joy of a life lived across the UK, Germany, Los Angeles, France, and Italy, celebrating freedom, adventure, and personal growth.
‘Chapters’ is an album of contrasts, balancing the intensity of tracks like ‘Hard Times’ and ‘Leaving It All Behind’ with tender acoustic moments such as ‘She’s Like The River’ and ‘One Day’. On ‘You Are My Island’, Moriarty’s electric guitar work shifts from sensitive, BB King-inspired solos to soaring climactic lines reflecting the influences of Clapton, Jimmy Page, Lindsey Buckingham, and Prince. Having not played electric guitar on any of his previous records, ‘Chapters’ will be a revelation for Moriarty’s listeners, where he truly becomes a lead guitarist for the first time.
The album features a host of top-tier collaborators: Evan Jenkins (Eric Clapton, Van Morrison) on drums, Thibault Guillen on bass, Georgie Leach (Seasick Steve) on violin, Rich Milner (James Morrison) on Hammond organ, and the powerful and soulful backing vocals of Louise and Melanie Marshall (Jools Holland, Ray Lamontagne). Moriarty himself contributes piano alongside his guitar and vocals, crafting a rich, timeless sonic palette.
“It was time to add electric guitar into the mix. I felt it was time to use the skills I’d learned at MI in LA to express myself and emotion in my music. Times had changed and in some of the songs I wanted to express more anger and aggression as a reflection of how the world had changed.” – Tom Moriarty
Following a career-threatening accident and a dog attack that injured his left hand, Moriarty began writing these songs as a way to process hardship, perseverance, and ultimately triumph.
Years in the making, recorded with producer Tristan Longworth (Jon Allen) and a team of exceptional musicians, Chapters is a culmination of Moriarty’s life experiences and artistic evolution. Originally slated for release in 2020, the album was delayed by the pandemic, making its eventual release a long-awaited celebration of endurance, storytelling, and musical mastery. The result is a record that has all the makings of a classic album for the ages.
