Washington, DC alternative rock band Burden’s Landing returns with “Blank Page”, an anthemic new single that transforms self-doubt, depression, and personal struggle into a cathartic blast of grunge-infused rock.
Taken from the band’s forthcoming EP 4 Songs, “Blank Page” arrives with the urgency and energy that have become central to Burden’s Landing’s identity. Distorted guitars collide with driving rhythms and sing-along melodies, creating a track that feels equally suited to a packed basement show, a long drive with the windows down, or those moments when you simply need to drown out your own thoughts.
At its core, however, “Blank Page” is a song about getting through.
Written by founding member Noah Mullinax during a particularly difficult period last summer, the song emerged at a time when self-doubt and negative thinking had begun to take hold. Rather than sitting with those feelings, Mullinax channelled them directly into the writing process.
“I wrote this song last summer. At the time, I was feeling very low and depressed. I was doubting myself a lot. Writing this song broke that cycle for me. This is a song about redemption and overcoming the onslaught of negative thoughts that, at times, refuse to go away. I got a few chords together and wrote the song in under 24 hours. We jammed on it in practice a few times and it came together quickly.

That immediacy can be heard throughout the track. There is very little distance between the emotion that inspired the song and the final recording. What began as a handful of chords quickly evolved into one of the most direct and powerful songs in the band’s catalogue.
Formed in 2023 after Mullinax relocated from New York City to Washington, DC, Burden’s Landing first introduced themselves through the self-recorded EP Could This Be a Portal?, a release that blended grunge, shoegaze, indie rock, and punk influences into a sprawling and ambitious debut. Since then, the band has become a regular presence across the DC, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania live circuits, building a reputation through club shows, DIY spaces, record stores, and anywhere willing to turn up the amplifiers.
Their latest EP, 4 Songs, captures the band’s range more completely than any previous release. While “Blank Page”delivers a fist-pumping anthem of perseverance, other tracks reveal a more reflective side, moving between punk energy, melodic introspection, and expansive guitar-driven textures.
The single also showcases the chemistry that has developed between the band’s members. Mullinax’s guitar work shifts between overdriven grit and shimmering shoegaze textures, while drummer Christian Scott James and bassist Jorge E. Bañales provide the momentum that drives the song forward without ever losing its emotional centre.
With “Blank Page”, Burden’s Landing isn’t offering easy answers or polished optimism. Instead, they capture the moment when someone decides to keep moving despite everything telling them not to. Loud, urgent, and undeniably human, the track serves as both a release valve and a reminder that redemption doesn’t always arrive quietly.
