CJ Gill Turns Hardship Into Hope on New Single “Time To Go”

After spending six years writing songs on Chicago’s South Side before relocating to Nashville, singer-songwriter CJ Gill is preparing to introduce his debut album Eye of the Storm. His latest single, “Time To Go”, captures the journey that brought him there: a powerful rock-infused reflection on resilience, growth, and finding the strength to move forward.

Drawing inspiration from legendary storytellers such as Townes Van Zandt and Kris Kristofferson while embracing the classic rock influences he grew up with, CJ Gill writes songs that balance poetic imagery with emotional honesty. His music is driven by stories that refuse easy answers, allowing vulnerability and perseverance to exist side by side.

“Time To Go” mirrors that philosophy. Beginning with a heavy, introspective atmosphere before gradually opening into something more hopeful, the song follows the emotional path of someone learning to leave behind what no longer serves them without losing sight of who they are.

The song began in Chicago, where CJ wrote its lyrics while reflecting on a period of personal change. After moving to Nashville, a sleepless night led him to write the now-defining guitar introduction, completing a piece that finally matched the sound he had imagined from the beginning. Recorded soon afterwards, “Time To Go” combines electric, acoustic and bass guitars with drums, fiddle, and organ, creating a rich arrangement that moves naturally from quiet reflection to an uplifting release.

Time To Go means allowing hardship to help grow into a stronger person”, says CJ Gill.

That message sits at the heart of the single. Rather than dwelling on loss or regret, “Time To Go” embraces the idea that difficult moments can become turning points, shaping resilience instead of defeat.

As he prepares to release his debut album Eye of the Storm, CJ Gill introduces himself as a songwriter interested in life’s complicated moments and the quiet strength it takes to keep moving through them.
