US musical project evolution 9 are continuing a strong run of independent releases with new single “Sweet Number One.”
The track has already accumulated more than 12,000 Spotify streams, following the success of “We Said Goodbye”, which has surpassed 80,000 plays. Other recent songs including “Who Will You Love” and “Tell Me Something” have also helped expand the project’s audience.
Led by songwriter and keyboardist Dave Follweiler, evolution 9 move between pop-rock, indie and power-pop influences rather than maintaining one fixed style.
“Sweet Number One” is rooted particularly strongly in classic melodic guitar music, with layered vocals and bright instrumentation supporting a story of lost romance.
The song also carries an unusually long history. Follweiler wrote its first version in the mid-80s before eventually returning to it decades later.
