Los Angeles-born, Charleston-raised singer-songwriter and multidisciplinary artist Georgia VanNewkirk returns with “CRUSH”, a hazy indie-pop daydream capturing the rush of wanting someone a little too much and the magic of a connection that may only exist in the moment.

Georgia VanNewkirk’s artistry extends far beyond songwriting. Drawing from her background in directing, producing, photography, styling, and visual design, she approaches each release as a complete creative world. Known for creating music that balances intimacy with expansive storytelling, Georgia’s work explores memory, longing, connection, and the quiet moments that often reveal the most about who we are. “CRUSH” was born during a period when Georgia and producer Corey Campbell were working on a much more emotionally heavy record. After weeks of writing through heartbreak and intense feelings, Georgia found herself needing a different kind of release.
The inspiration arrived while sharing the story of someone she had recently met in Los Angeles. After only three dates, the connection felt larger than life: a spontaneous adventure filled with late nights, uncertainty, and the feeling that anything was possible. The song emerged almost immediately, capturing the optimism and excitement that had been missing from the rest of the project.
Later, drummer Jake Cochran from Illiterate Light joined the recording, bringing an added energy and live intensity that helped shape the track’s uplifting, carefree spirit.
Georgia explains:
“I realized I wasn’t writing about him as much as I was writing about the feeling itself. It’s a song about staying up too late, romanticizing everything, and knowing deep down that something doesn’t have to last forever to be meaningful.”
