London meeting leads Melinda Joy into next album chapter

Melinda Joy’s new single “Deadly” arrives as the artist begins a fresh creative phase with London producer Antony Galatis.

The collaboration came about unexpectedly during a recent European and UK tour. After meeting Galatis at a London house concert, Joy visited Uptown Studios the following morning while struggling with the direction of her next album. The session ultimately led to an ongoing partnership.

“Deadly” offers an early glimpse of the reflective territory surrounding that period. Blending jazz-pop with indie-folk, the song considers how endings can make room for new beginnings rather than simply closing something down.

Its dreamlike character has a literal origin: Joy first heard the melody while drifting between sleep and wakefulness and recorded it immediately.

With influences including Norah Jones, Sara Bareilles, Regina Spektor and Vanessa Carlton, the track continues Joy’s preference for melodic songwriting, layered arrangements and emotionally direct themes.
