Sharkeologist Drops High-Energy Indie-Rock Burner ‘There Will Be Bread’

Seattle’s rising alternative outfit Sharkeologist returns with their explosive new single, “There Will Be Bread,” taken from their upcoming EP ‘TAXIDERMY IS FOREVER’, due for release in May. The single a high-energy indie-rock track that turns existential doubt into a danceable, riff-driven anthem.

Entering the Seattle music scene in 2024, Sharkeologist (rhymes with archaeologist) quickly carved out a space of their own, blending indie, punk, pop, and grunge into an emotionally charged sonic experience. Their sound pairs driving rhythms and gritty guitars with ethereal keys and hook-heavy melodies that linger long after the final chord fades.

“There Will Be Bread” captures that duality perfectly: sharp-edged anxiety wrapped in an irresistibly kinetic groove. Fueled by electric guitar, bass, pounding drums, shimmering keys, dynamic vocals, and an unexpected punch of saxophone performed by Grammy-award winning musician Johnny Butler, the track surges forward with restless intensity.

Lyrically, the song wrestles with uncomfortable questions about authenticity, care, and self-interest.

“TWBB is an anxious meditation on whether or not the people we care about really care about us,” the band shares. “In this case, it’s our singer’s therapist. Do they really care, or is it only about the money, the ‘bread?’ Is that the only thing any of us care about in the end? Ourselves? Shitty questions to contemplate. But hey, at least the song makes you wanna dance.”

That tension between existential unease and kinetic release is where Sharkeologist thrives. The band transforms spiralling inner dialogue into something cathartic, music you can shout along to in a crowded venue or blast alone while overthinking everything.

The project began with songwriter Jeff Grant, who composed the band’s first 11 songs before teaming up with producer Jesse Mazur to release their debut album, The Last Gasp. Mazur soon joined the lineup full-time, and with the addition of Aaron Stayman, Joel Hoyer, Shawn Schlogel, and Rick Weber, Sharkeologist evolved into a formidable live act, playing shows across the Pacific Northwest.

“There Will Be Bread” was recorded at Exex Audio in Seattle with Johnny Nails and mastered by Ed Brooks at Resonant Mastering, also in Seattle, capturing the band’s raw live energy while sharpening its sonic edge.

With this latest release, Sharkeologist continues to solidify their presence in the Pacific Northwest’s thriving alternative scene. It’s anxious. It’s loud. It’s hook-heavy. And it proves that even life’s messiest questions can sound electrifying when turned all the way up.
