Cameroon-born, Germany-based artist Der Oscar Effekt returns with his most personal project yet, three stone fireside, vol. 1, led by the single “Fool”.
Known for his fusion of Afrofusion, Makossa, Bikutsi, African folk, and hip-hop, Der Oscar Effekt doesn’t just make music; he creates vibes that live between reflection and rhythm. three stone fireside, vol. 1 draws its name from the traditional three-stone fireside found in many African households, the outdoor kitchen where families gather to cook, share laughter, and pass down wisdom from generation to generation. For Der Oscar Effekt, this image represents warmth, storytelling, and connection, a feeling he has carried with him from Cameroon to Germany. “Even though I live far from home, that sense of togetherness never left me”, he says. “This album is my way of translating that energy into sound, intimate, reflective, and communal.” Built mostly from beats created specifically for him by producers in Cameroon, every track feels handmade and deeply rooted. The project moves through moments of love, struggle, betrayal, self-belief, and gratitude, all tied by the same fire that keeps us connected.
The lead single “Fool” is an emotional piece born from silence and restraint. “I wrote ‘Fool’ after a time when I felt betrayed and misunderstood one too many times”, Der Oscar Effekt explains. “People mistake calmness for weakness. They see you smile, stay positive, and think you don’t feel pain. But you do, you just choose not to let it change who you are.” Mixing English and Pidgin, the song’s warmth and meditative beat carry the weight of unspoken words, turning composure into strength.
With two acclaimed albums behind him, Kryptonite (2023) and Neige et Poussière (2024), Der Oscar Effekt has spent years refining a sound that blends honesty with innovation. Kryptonite was raw and emotional, a vulnerable first step into his artistic voice. Neige et Poussière (“Snow and Dust”) reflected on renewal, duality, and the tension of belonging to two worlds, Europe’s snow and Africa’s dust. Now, with three stone fireside, vol. 1, he offers a musical homecoming, a return to the fire that started it all.
