‘Timor Leste’ opens next phase for Reetoxa ahead of 2027 double album

Reetoxa are beginning a new period of activity with the release of “Timor Leste”, while already preparing a much larger project for 2027.

The Melbourne-based project’s latest single is rooted in songwriter Jason McKee’s Royal Australian Navy deployment to East Timor in 2006.

Built around memories that have remained vivid for two decades, the track combines personal storytelling with a broad arrangement featuring guitars, bass, drums, piano and orchestra.

Contributors include Peter Marin, Kit Riley, James Ryan and Terry White, with Simon Moro handling production, mixing and mastering.

The song reflects McKee’s experiences during and after the deployment, including the psychological weight of what he witnessed and the complicated process of returning to everyday life.

Beyond the single, Reetoxa are currently developing a double album for early 2027. The record is expected to contain 22 tracks and will represent the project’s most extensive release to date.
